This Friday is the famous “Black Friday”, a commercial event imported straight from the United States. Many Luxembourg businesses have responded and will offer dizzying promotions on Friday evening, but also throughout the weekend. We’ll explain everything below.
Black Friday is just one of many commercial events in Luxembourg. Between the summer sales, the winter sales, the Mantelsonndeg and not to mention the other promotions, the event has come to occupy a special place in the hearts of fashion lovers. So much so, that you’d almost forget that it crossed the Atlantic.
A little history
Indeed, the event was imported straight from the United States. Black Friday dates back to the 1930s. Shops would have set up a big commercial action in order to revitalise the post-depression economy.
Today, American Black Friday is more like a day of excess. All kinds of excesses are possible. The discounts are so dizzying that many scenes of chaos break out in front of department stores’ doors: fighting, pushing and insults of all kinds.
In France, the event is more recent, and it is (fortunately) a little more moderate. The aim is only to offer customers attractive but reasonable offers to make their end-of-year gifts as calmly as possible.
And in Luxembourg?
In Luxembourg, the shopping centers seem to have got the word out. They have all revised their opening hours for the occasion and are offering discounts and entertainment of all kinds. And not just on Friday, but all weekend long.
La Belle Etoile is without doubt the shop that has dared the most. On Friday, the shopping center will open its doors until midnight. “Midnight shopping for all bargain hunters.
In Esch-sur-Alzette, the Belval Plaza will be open until 10 pm on Friday. And on Sunday, it will be exceptionally open in the afternoon, from 2 to 6 pm.
La Cloche d’Or and the Kirchberg shopping center will be open until 9 pm on Friday. And the shopping centers will be open all day on Sunday. There will also be competitions, vouchers and prizes to be won.
In Oberpallen, the Pall Center is offering a 30% discount on selected brands. And in Pommerloch, you can get discounts of up to 70% off at the Knauf Shopping Center.
In the city center of the capital, many shops will also be offering these discounts. We’ll let you discover all this on the spot.
What about electro?
In the United States, it is mainly the promotions on electronic devices that create the frenzy. And here in France, the shops have understood the interest of consumers for their discounted products. That’s why Orange, Saturn and Hifi-international shops offer a large number of discounts on televisions, smartphones, ear-pods and other electronic gadgets.
The promotions are available in shop or online.
Green Friday
The ‘Make Friday Green again’ collective was formed in response to Black Friday. The aim of the Green Friday organizers is simple: to fight against the over-consumption and destructive action of Black Friday. They encourage businesses to raise awareness among their customers of a more sustainable way of consuming. The organization is French but many brands have already joined the collective since its creation in 2019. We think of Maison du Monde or Nature et découvertes. Shops present in Luxembourg.
